Accurate depth measurement is the core of almost every underwater task, and it's what Echologger echosounders are built to do. Compact single- and dual-frequency echosounders measure water depth precisely and reliably — even in turbid water or around complex structures — and integrate easily as a depth sensor on boats, USVs and fixed installations.

Alongside depth, the instruments measure altitude: the distance from the sensor to the seabed. The AA400 autonomous altimeter is built specifically for this, letting an AUV hold a set height above the bottom or a fixed platform track its clearance — with integrated logging so the data is recorded without an external system.

Dual-frequency models add backscatter data alongside depth, which characterises the composition and texture of the seabed for sediment classification and habitat mapping. Together, depth, altitude and backscatter give a fuller picture than depth alone.

For unattended work, the AA400 and EA400 act as autonomous depth data loggers, recording depth and altitude over long deployments with no operator present — useful for monitoring, research and any setting where continuous depth data must be captured and stored on its own.
