A type of scanning sonar that physically rotates its transducer to capture a 360° field of view. It sequentially emits sound pulses in all directions, producing a detailed acoustic map of nearby structures. Mechanical scanners are widely used on ROVs and tripods for dam inspections, harbor monitoring, and archaeological surveys.
